Mission Statement

HUMMUS 2050 was originally developed in 2007 in the frame of the Just Jerusalem competition submission requirements. The Just Jerusalem Competition was part of the Jerusalem 2050 program, a joint initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technologies´ Department of Urban Studies and Planning and Center for International Studies in Cambridge, USA.

Not limited to Jerusalem, HUMMUS 2050 is an overarching vision for a peaceful and thriving East Mediterranean Region by the year 2050. It attempts to create a large initiative to re-connect this fragmented area through a long term cooperative process, based on civic society movements and a network of cities. Generating an East Mediterranean City Belt will lead to a cosmopolitan identity.
